Streusel-Topped German Apple Cake
This delicious Streusel-Topped German Apple Cake is a classic. The moist cake has a delicious streusel topping made with butter, sugar, flour and cinnamon. The apples are soft and sweet, making this a perfect cake for any occasion.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup applesauce
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch springform pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Add the applesauce and mix until combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Stir in the apples and walnuts. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the 1/2 cup of flour, brown sugar, butter, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle the streusel topping over the cake.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
