Orange Chocolate Cake
This decadent orange chocolate cake is sure to be a hit! It starts with a moist chocolate cake base and is topped with a creamy orange frosting. The perfect combination of tart and sweet, this cake is sure to be a crowd pleaser!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 1/4 cups white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup orange juice
- 2 tablespoons grated orange zest
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract until combined.
- Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Divide the batter between the prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the orange juice, orange zest, confectioners’ sugar, butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread the frosting over the cooled cakes. Serve and enjoy!
