Orange Chocolate Cake

This decadent orange chocolate cake is sure to be a hit! It starts with a moist chocolate cake base and is topped with a creamy orange frosting. The perfect combination of tart and sweet, this cake is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons grated orange zest
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Divide the batter between the prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the orange juice, orange zest, confectioners’ sugar, butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread the frosting over the cooled cakes. Serve and enjoy!
