Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup hazelnut meal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, hazelnut meal, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the eggs with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in the granulated sugar, orange zest, and vanilla extract. Gradually beat in the oil and orange juice. Beat in the flour mixture until just combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Sprinkle with the chopped hazelnuts. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  5. For the praline topping, combine the brown sugar, flour, and melted butter in a medium bowl. Mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over the top of the cakes.
  6. Bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the cake is cooked through. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
