Ingredients:

  • 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 3/4 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the sugar, thyme, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder and cook until the onions are golden brown, about 10 minutes. Add the beef broth and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  3. Remove the skillet from the heat and spread the onion mixture evenly in the bottom of the pie crust. Sprinkle the Gruyere cheese over the top. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and half-and-half. Pour the egg mixture over the cheese and onion mixture.
  4. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top of the quiche is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
