Maple-Bacon Cupcakes with Maple Buttercream
These decadent cupcakes are a perfect combination of sweet and savory! A fluffy maple-flavored cupcake is topped with a creamy maple buttercream, and finished off with a crispy bacon sprinkle for the ultimate indulgence.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 4 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon maple extract
- 4 tablespoons heavy cream
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, oil, eggs, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and buttermilk until smooth.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and whisk until just combined. Stir in the crumbled bacon.
- Fill the cupcake liners 3/4 full with batter and bake for 20-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar, maple extract, and heavy cream and beat until combined.
- Frost cooled cupcakes and top with extra bacon crumbles, if desired.
