This classic Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Icing is the perfect dessert for any special occasion. Rich, moist red velvet cake is topped with a creamy cream cheese icing for a truly indulgent treat. It’s sure to satisfy even the most discerning sweet tooth.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition. Beat in the buttermilk, vinegar, food coloring and vanilla. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until just blended.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
  5. To make the icing, beat together the cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in the confectioners’ sugar until the desired consistency is reached. Spread over the cooled cake.
  6. Cut into squares and serve.
