Chocolate Malted Cake Recipe
This decadent Chocolate Malted Cake will have your taste buds dancing with delight. Featuring a moist and rich chocolate cake base, malt powder and cocoa powder which combine to create a delightful flavor, and a creamy chocolate buttercream icing, this cake will be the star of any gathering.
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup malt powder
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup hot water
- 2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
- 3 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla, oil, malt powder and sour cream. Add to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
- Stir in the hot water and mix until smooth. Divide the batter between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
- To make the icing, beat the butter until creamy. Add the confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, and heavy cream and beat on low speed until combined, then increase the speed and beat until light and fluffy.
- Spread the icing between the cooled cakes, then on top and sides. Decorate as desired.
